Although sagging eyebrows, drooping upper lids, and pouches under the eyes are a natural part of aging, these features can make an energetic person appear tired and look older than he or she feels.
Every year, thousands of Asian women and men choose eyelid surgery to restore a more energetic and youthful appearance.
There are many differences between Caucasian and Asian eyes. For example, Asian eyes have increased fat content and somewhat thicker skin. Often the crease of the upper eyelids is incomplete or non-existant, allowing the skin to hang over the lashes and conceal much of the eye.
In most Asian blepharoplasties, a fold, or crease, is created in the upper eyelid ("westernizing" the eyes). Excess fat and skin are removed from the upper and lower lids. After the surgery, there is a softer, more youthful appearance.
Asian blepharoplasty are often treated by ophthalmic, plastic and reconstructive surgeons. Fellowship in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) indicates that the surgeon has special training and expertise in this sub-specialty. |
